Governments Response and actions
MILITARY INVOLVEMENT
The Egyptian military have played a key role during the revolution. They were sent by President Mubarak to stabilize the riots, and were also ordered to execute the rioting civilians by the President, which ended up in the senseless killing of over 800 citizens and the wounding of another 1600. Currently the Egyptian Military, or The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, has seized control of the government momentarily for six months and have already suspended the constitution in order to reform and make revisions to it. The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces are currently working towards turning Egypt into a democracy. They have even started holding elections and picking new seats for parliament. The Muslim Brotherhoods Freedom and Justice party is by far the most popular.

PRESIDENT MUBARAKS RESIGNATION
As a result of the protests, President Hosni Mubarak stepped down as president of Egypt after a 30 year presidency on February 11 2011. He was charged with pre-meditated murder, attempted killing, misuse of influence and public funds, and unlawfully making private financial gains and profits, there is also emerging information that shows that President Mubarak rigged past elections in order to maintain presidency. He was charged with these after ordering the military to execute any protestors and ended up killing 800 people; his 2 children were also charged with pre-meditated murder. President Mubarak also manipulated the governments’ money and funds for his own corrupt, personal gain. He is currently being detained in the Red Sea resort of Sharm El-Shakih until his trial. The President did not directly resign, he asked his Vice President and Army General, Omar Suleiman, to resign for him.Suleiman stated: "In these grave circumstances that the country is passing through, President Hosni Mubarak has decided to leave his position as president of the republic, He has mandated the Armed Forces Supreme Council to run the state. God is our protector and succor."
These words cannot even begin to describe the “circumstances” Egypt has gone through under Mubarak’s 30 year regime, let alone the travesties and crimes against humanity that occurred during the riots.

POLICE BRUTALITY
The police in Egypt have had a history of brutality under the presidency of Hosni Mubarak, and during the riots police brutality was rampant. The police tortured, assaulted and in some cases killed rallying citizens. Police brutality was one of the main causes of the riots in Egypt. Throughout the riots many videos were posted of police assaulting people. Many riots for democracy and change have been halted throughout the years by police using excessive force. Sadly none of this is new, it’s just that it has finally been brought to light because Mubarak’s oppressive regime has been taken down and can no longer censor the shocking, disturbing images and videos from the rest of the world.
